The Photo Contest: Let's Get Digital

This was a fun contest for us to judge. There were so many wonderful images!

For the Grand Prize winner, I chose Ken Weissblum's "Self Portrait". Not only did it show a lot of creativity, but a lot of effort as well. One of the criteria we had for judging was that the "digital" effect not simply be an application of an off-the-shelf filter. We wanted to see images that were original, well conceived and executed. I found that this image was all of these. Ken will receive, from Red River Paper,,the Canon S820 Printer, and Compupic Pro from Photodex Corporation.

For first runner-up, I chose Vanessa Aravena's image of a woman's face. I liked the way it was laid out, colored and the effect of plastic wrap applied to the image. Vanessa wins a Giclée print of his image from Blue Heron Editions.

Second runner up was Peter Anderson's "Twirly Twirly Flower." It is richly colored and composed, and the digital effects that were used are subtle but effective.

This time we also chose five Honorable Mentions to show you. Thanks to everyone who participated. You showed great creativity.

Please note: Once again we received a very large number of exceptional photographs by photographers who did not send in their submission forms. Your photo will be disqualified if you do not get the form in to us. We allow extra time for forms to reach us from overseas, and we have provided a fax number for those of you wishing to submit in that manner.
