Kaleidoscope Eyes
A Day in the Life of
Sgt. Pepper
This beautiful hard-covered photography book is going to transport you back in time to 1967, to the era of The Beatles--John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Star. The Beatles had stopped touring and had dedicated themselves to writing, recording and experimenting with songs behind the closed doors of their studio.
It was in 1967 that American photographer Henry Grossman was on special assignment for Life magazine, visiting the EMI's Abbey Road Studios. Henry found himself immersed in a six-hour session with his friends, The Beatles, on their first day of work on "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds". He was not only witnessing the labors of bringing this new song to life, but was documenting the entire session with his camera, capturing 250 black and white images.
Through the book Kaleidoscope Eyes, A Day in the Life of Sgt. Pepper, you can now, for the first time ever, view all 250 of these amazing photos, which include 220 never-seen photographs.
It is presented as a photo essay, so you the reader can enjoy the evening with The Beatles just as Henry Grossman did, chronologically from start to finish. "Tuesday, February 28, 8:15 pm. Suddenly at 8 the room crackles to life." And throughout the book, Henry keeps the session alive with his conversations, his commentary, and his memories. Henry: "Paul had such a baby-face, but put a cigarette in his mouth and suddenly he became Jean-Paul Belmondo, the French actor; every one of these guys smoked madly." It's this photographic journey through time and through the pages that will have you returning to the book time and again. And you'll be more than anxious to share it with your friends and family.
It is most fitting that the portfolios have been limited to 1967 hand-numbered copies, which have been individually signed by Henry Grossman. The 11x11 inch linen covered book is presented in a linen clamshell case, both with embossed silver text. It contains 24o silver-lined pages of heavyweight art paper with image glossing. Included in the box are four, 8x10 inch, hand-signed black and white photo prints and an 8x10 inch reproduction of one of Henry's contact sheets. All are suitable for framing.
If you are an avid Beatles fan and/or a connoisseur of photo art, then this is definitely the portfolio for you. This is a coffee-table book collectors little slice of heaven.
