GET INTIMATE WITH YOUR SUBJECT

By Noella Ballenger

I wanted a pink winter bouquet and found just what I was looking for.  I liked the uniformity of the petals. I wanted them to overlap each other like three good friends--independent but touching.

One pride-and-joy from my own garden is my roses.  This one is called Pink Perfection, and it’s a delight.  The petals are velvety smooth and the fragrance is warm and rich.

The tulips were set on a ladder in the kitchen.  Light was coming in primarily from the windows at the right and bouncing off the refrigerator on the left.  The background is out-of-focus pink foil wrapping paper (I think it came with the tulips) held on to the back of the ladder with clothespins.

These tulips were shot during a pause in a rain shower at the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in Washington. They were droopy and wet but vivid in color.
