PHOTO: BOX You don’t have to be a photographer to thoroughly enjoy this book. 250 images have been collected from 200 of the world’s greatest photographers—some you will surely recognize, while others you may not. No matter, it will draw you in! It is a compilation of photos within twelve themes depicting photography’s 170 years of history, from its early days to the present, covering: reportage, nature, war, portraits, still life, women, travel, cities, art, fashion, the nude and sports. Each photo is accompanied by a brief biography of the photographer and compelling text related to the photo—insight into the photographer, their craft, their subject. And some will tell the story of how they were technically created. The photographers include Edward Weston, Helmut Newton, Annie Leibovitz, Ansel Adams, Edward Steichen and many more. This will be a great addition to anyone’s book collection. Text: A+

NO SMALL MATTER: Travel into a world that can’t be seen by the human eye--the world of nanotechnology. You may think that you wouldn’t find this of interest, that it is too far removed from your daily life, but it is intriguing. How will nanoscience change and affect our lives in the future? What effect will it have on the world’s economy? This book is a marvelous merger of science and beautiful photography, taking us on a very understandable journey into the invisible--that which has changed and will continue to revamp all of our lives. Both the scientist's and photographer's excitement will entice you. Analogies and metaphors are used in both text and photos, so we can more easily grasp this new world of ideas. Not only will it make a wonderful coffee table book, but it will be a “catalyst” to active discussions with family and friends. Text: A+

Healer of Angels
Because this is not a book about photography, it was not rated as such, but photographically, the quality would have been greatly enhanced with glossy paper and larger images. It does however fit in with Apogee’s article category of Nature and Wildlife and a previously written article around the subject matter. To follow the touching story of a Golden Eagle from its rescue to its release, visit Noella Ballenger’s article about the “Lone Survivor”. To learn more about the Southwest Wildlife Foundation and Martin’s work or to purchase a signed copy of the book, just visit their web site.
