The Photo Contest: Clouds

This contest brought a wide variety of entry subjects and themes. We saw a lot of sunrises and sunsets, cloudscapes, and clouds as backgrounds. We saw a great many color images, but only a handful of black and white ones.

 

We chose our winners on the basis of how well they stuck to the theme, composition and image quality. Our grand prize winner was Charles Marchetti. His image was strong in all three categories. It is truly an amazing study of clouds.

 

As first runner up, we chose Jeffrey Beardall's, "Tower of Clouds." It is strong in the composition department as well as a fine juxtaposition of the man-made and the natural world.

 

Our second runner up was Anupam Pal's "Cloudscape". This is a very strong composition and illustrates the strength that comes from placing the horizon low in the image.

 

All of our honorable mentions represent the very best from all of the entries. Everyone of these photographers should be proud of these images.
