The
Photo Contest: Moving
It is a challenge portraying motion with a static,
two-dimensional medium such as photography. The winners, here, did a
superb job with that challenge.
We chose "Whee", Wayne Harlech-Jones's photo
of a woman on a swing, as the Grand Prize winner. The bright, primary
colors of the woman against the bright green moving background, combined
with the sharpness with which Harlech-Jones captured the woman made this
image stand out. I also liked the placement of the woman within the
image as well as her pose which together emphasize the motion.
Our first runner-up was
Nathan Clarke's "Llamadas". The use of a slower
shutter speed in a nighttime environment allowed Clarke to capture this
image emphasizing the frenetic nature of this festival, something that
would not have happened if all of the subjects were static and sharp.
