The
Photo Contest: "Lines
of Color"
The objective of this theme was to create
a compelling, well composed image using the two elements of design, line
and color. What I expected to see were lines, either real or implied,
made up of strong color or colors. The entries, as usual, were
excellent.
I chose
Ann Kamzelski,
"Psychodelic Curves,” as
Grand Prize winner. This was a stunning image. The larger lines form a
strong diagonal element that gives dynamism and strength to the image.
Running perpendicular to the major lines are smaller lines made up of
color. The colors themselves lend strength to the image through their
brilliance and use of a complementary color palette. The result is an
image that begs us to guess what it is. Caterpillars? A leave or petal
of a flower? In truth, this is colored fabric beneath a textured glass.
Great job.
The first-runner up image was also stunning. Michael G Smith
uses a analogous color pallete to create a surreal landscape of
both real and implied lines in his image,
“Worlds without Number."
The perspective created by the converging lines and the decrease
in size of the spheres pulls us inward to the "eyes' in the
background. The result is mysterious image full of motion and
mystery.
