The Photo Contest: Ice

The winner of our 44th bi-monthly contest is Mark Reichert's "Berg."  We chose this image for its drama, color and composition. Icebergs can be truly awesome, as Reichert's image shows. We liked the moodiness of this image with its brooding sky, blue glacial ice, and calm sea. The window through the middle was an important aspect of the composition, giving the necessary negative space to help balance the image.

First runner-up went to Deborah Osborne and her image, "Winter Abstract." We liked the strong graphic quality of the composition. The color is striking and the icy moss forms many interesting shapes which continually engages our interest.

Frequent contributor, Illka Niskanen was our second runner-up with her striking image of ice crystals. The contrast of colors, the blue of the crystals and the orange of the light behind them, form a wonderful image.

The other images were chosen for their strength and clarity, and their adherence to the theme. These also represented some of the best from a technical point of view. Kudos to everyone!
