PHOTOJOJO!: Insanely Great Photo Projects and DIY Ideas
By: Amit Gupta with Kelly Jensen

This book applies to the new category of photo crafting. It was created in response to the enormous success of the email chain that turned into the photojojo! newsletter. The newsletter, this new book, and also a heavily visited website offer ideas for what photo hobbyists can do with their photographs. Some of the ideas include making stands out of bent forks or altered tealight tins, snowglobes, and magnet people. Not all of the projects include the manipulation of printed images, however, some offer advice for altering the images as you photograph, such as making a cheap fisheye lens, a string monopod, or attaching your camera to your dog (on the cover). The book also includes photography tips throughout, offering advice on lighting, composition, and other helpful information. This book is a great tool for crafty people wanting to do something unique with their photographs.

by Leslie Alsheimer and Bryan O’Neil Hughes

Most people know that creating amazing color images with digital photography creates some great results because there are many examples out there. What people, besides photographers, don’t know is how hard it is to create a quality black and white image with digital photography. This is why many traditional black & white photographers are so devoted to film. There’s never been anything like it, until now. The capabilities of Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom are to the point that amazing black and white images are now possible; the trick is knowing how to use the programs to optimize the qualities. This book, published by renowned Focal Press, is a resource for the photographers wanting to do just that. The text shows photographers an ideal workflow to optimize monochromatic images.

Mastering Digital SLR: How to Get the Most Out of Your Digital Camera
    by Chris Weston

This book has been created with excellent layout and diagramming in order to explain the technicalities of digital photography. The author uses a text explanation, drawings, and images to explain concepts, such as sensor design and resolution. Often, in digital photography books, topics will be covered that many photographers already know from their experience with film. This book really focuses on the digital world of photography. For example, the author discusses exposure by explaining the histogram, setting exposure modes and burst rates. This book would be beneficial to the traditional film photographer making the transition to digital.
