Tip of the Week

Got some small black specks in the viewfinder of your SLR? Don’t worry about them showing up in your photographs. They are almost always on the surface of your camera’s focusing screen. Remove the lens and use a soft, clean blower brush on the screen, but do not touch the mirror. If you can remove the focusing screen or the camera’s prism, you can also reach any specks of dirt on the top of the screen. Canned, compressed air (DUST–OFF) can reach into tight spots to blow off dust. (don’t shake or tilt the can) Dust spots on the surface of your lens are so far out of focus that they can’t cause sharp spots on your prints or slides.
