Hitchman's Tip of the Week I carry fifty-feet of half-inch nylon rope for my slot canyon explorations in a long and narrow cloth bag. When I reach the upper rim of a canyon, I use the bag to lower tripods down to the bottom without scratching them against the walls. A hundred-foot spool of thin, strong nylon cord is handy for lowering tripods, backpacks, and camera bags. This makes climbing in and out of the slot canyons easier and safer. Dont forget to remove your wrist watch before entering any of these canyons. The sandstone walls along the narrow passageways always scratch the crystals.
