Hitchman's Tip of the Week Remember the "sunny 16" and the "lunar-11" rules. The exposure for the full moon should be f 11 at a shutter speed equal to your films ISO. Thats f 11 @ 1/125 for an ISO 100 film. Remember that this exposure is only for the moon itself, not the landscape illuminated by the moon. Moonlit landscapes can require very long exposures. Try a four-minute exposure @ f 3.5 with ISO 400 film for a normal landscape and then add the full moon to the scene with a double exposure. Sand, snow and other light-colored landscapes will need an exposure of two minutes. Dark scenes may need an eight-minute exposure. Use a wide-angle lens for the landscape and a telephoto to enlarge the moon. Exposures longer than 30 seconds will show the moon as a washed-out oblong blur.
