Chelsea Pensioners, who may often be induced to pose for a portrait, are retired military gentlemen, still entitled to wear the Queen's colours. Their uniform dates from the 18th century. The Pensioners live at the Chelsea Royal Hospital, founded by King Charles II, and completed in 1692 by Sir Christopher Wren.
