It's Spring - A Photo Safari Kind of Day

By Noella Ballenger and Marla Meier

The purpose of the following story is to help you use your imagination and increase your visual powers as well as your vocabulary.   We've written a story leaving some blanks.

Choose an object that fits in the story. Write the word in the blank and then photograph the
object to illustrate the story.  Remember, it's fine to let your imagination run wild and--most of all--have FUN, FUN, and more FUN!

When you get your photographs back, paste them on sheets of paper and number them to fit the story. It's so easy, you might want to make up a story of your own next time!

Here are some tips to help you take better pictures:

1.  Keep the camera strap around your neck.  You don't want to lose your camera during all the fun.

2.  Hold the camera steady when you're taking the photograph.

3.  Eliminate things in the picture that aren't important.

4.  Take your time.  Think about what you want to show us.

5.   Get closer to your subject.   Make it look important.

A PHOTO SAFARI  DAY   by (write your name here)_____________________________________

It's a BEAUTIFUL day outside.  On days like this, I like to go on adventures and have fun. I wonder what I can find in this new looking world.   I think I would like to go to the __________________________(photo #1) on my Photo Safari.

I'll bet I can take some very special pictures.  Let me think! What would I need to take with me on a Photo Safari?

I want to wear my favorite _____________________(photo #2) and _______________________(photo #3), because I know I can run, jump, climb and crawl in them.

Oh, I know I will get hungry and thirsty. I always do when I'm out exploring. I believe I will pack _____________________(photo #4),  _______________________(photo #5), and ____________________________(photo #6).

My snack sounds so good, I hope I can wait until later to eat it.  Maybe I'll have just a little  taste now!

I'm going to call my friend __________(photo #7) and see if he/she would like to go on a photo safari with me. That would be even more fun. Together, I'll bet we can find all sorts of things to photograph.   And, I had better bring a  __________________(photo #8)  in which to carry everything.  I'll bet I'll also find some great stuff that I'll want to bring   home with me.

Okay, I'm ready to go.  Gosh, I almost forgot the most important thing, MY CAMERA!   How can I take pictures without it?  I'd better make sure I have enough film too.   I said goodbye to my __________________________(photo #9) and said where I was going and when I would be back. Then I told my pet ___________________________(photo #10) she/he would have to stay home and wait for me.

My friend and I are off on our Photo Safari! This is going to be great fun!   The bright, warm sun makes everything look alive as it shines on the ____________________________ (photo #11).  The _________________________(photo #12) are starting to bloom with pretty colors, and I can hear the happy songs of the________________________(photo #13)coming from the ___________________________________(photo #14).

We looked in the ________________________(photo #15), under a _____________________________(photo #16),behind the__________________________(photo #17), and on the _______________________(photo #18) and found all sorts of NEAT things to photograph.

Boy, am I getting dirty!  Oh well, that's what happens when one goes on safari!   I'm sure Mom and Dad will understand that  a little dirt is a necessary hazard when you're taking great pictures.

We found some really cool things to bring home!   We found ________________________________(photo #19), ____________________________(photo #20),
____________________________(photo #21), _________________________________(photo #22) and __________________________(photo #23).

Well, another day of adventure has come to a close.   It's time to go home ____________________________(photo #24). I can't wait to see all the great pictures I took, put them with the story, and show them to everyone!  I wonder where I can go on my next Photo Safari?
