The Photo Contest: Reflections
I had to be ruthless this month. I don't often include this many winners in this column, but there were so many remarkable images I just couldn't decide. And still I had to be ruthless.
Most entries had to do with reflections on water. Of the ones I rejected most were of this type. To be included there had to be good use of color, but there had to be strong elements of design as well. And this is where most fell short. The reflection has to be one part of the design, but not the whole thing. Reflections for reflections sake didn't make it for me.
I chose "Parisian Reflection" as our winner. This is really a surprising image. When I first saw it, it took several seconds to register what I was seeing. When I realized it was reflections in a building's windows, I was further amazed to see how many of them were complete compositions within themselves. What a happy surprise!
The black and white image, "Lake Keret," shows what a strong image can result from a good black and white image. The composition is strong and well balanced. I chose this as first runner-up. It was a very close second place.
I chose "Park City Door" as the second runner-up because of the strong elements of color, and the clever composition.
The Honorable Mention images where chosen for at least one of the following reasons. They had a strong use of color and graphic design or they used the theme of this contest in an original way.
