The Photo Contest: Cityscapes
I was very pleased by the entries into this contest. Many of you chose to explore the notion of cityscape and go beyond the simple notion of a skyline. And, this contest was our most international one, with entries coming from all over the world.
I chose Chris D'Andrea's "Alamo Square Evening" as the winner. I was struck by composition, the layer upon layer of urban life with the clouds as icing on the top. The colors are also stunning, and I liked the lights in the windows of the townhouses on the lower right as a nice accent to the whole picture.
"Red Square" by Myron Brenton was a close second. It is a unique treatment of a common scene that makes a compelling statement about urban life.
Monique C.M. de Jong's "Horton Square" is a beautifully composed and well executed cityscape. The colors are vibrant and her angle create strong image.
"Street Clown" by Fred Lokay reminds us that cities are about people. Here is a wonderfully executed portrait of a clown on the street. The light is beautiful. The composition is simple but very dramatic.
