The Photo Contest: It's a Small World
I tried to limit my selection to ten, but I just couldn't do it.
Even some of the baby pictures were good, and we did find out from where they are coming. We were listed at a contest website under "baby contests." Our contest page was listed there in its entirety; I guess no one bothered to read it. I thought it could have been because of the "Small World" title of this contest, but now I am getting babies dressed in red and redheaded babies for our next "red" contest! The owner of that site has promised to rectify the problem.
Well, back to our contest.
We received the largest number of entries
ever and as I said, it was hard to winnow it down to our usual ten, so I
didn't. It was fun opening the envelopes and e-mails with your pictures
and hearing the ooh's and aah's of our staff as we did so.
The winner this time is Paula Lechten's image of the spider web and rose hip. Not only is the content fetching, but her composition is wonderful. This is an image that should be hanging in someone's home or office. Congratulations, Paula.
Running a real close second was Balazc Dibuz's, "Frost." The warm backlight is well placed to provide a contrast to colder, bluer ice crystals. It is a beautiful image because of the composition and the detail and texture.
"Brown Eye Susan," by Troy Keiser was my third choice. The bright yellow against the more muted greens and grays makes for a superb composition. The flower is off center and touching the edges of the photo, providing routes for the eye in and out of the photo. This also would make a calming photo for someone's busy office.
The remaining photos all have something to say for them. They are all examples of both artistic sensibilities as well as a good understanding of photography.
Because Macro photography is unique
unto itself, it presents a number of challenges. These photos represent a
mastery of both art and technique. Way to go everyone!
