The Photo Contest: "Feathers"

In this contest, we received wonderful images from all over the world. The quality was especially high, so we have included more than we usually do.

Grand Prize goes to Ilona Wellman for her image, "Crying Feather." It is a beautiful black and white photo, and while it appears simple in its composition, the image is full of shapes and lines, shadow and light, and texture. There is strong line that pulls you through the picture, as well. It is wonderfully lighted which is the secret behind this excellent photograph. Wellman wins a copy of Compupic Pro from Photodex Corporation and Power Retouche Photoshop plug-ins for high quality photo editing, retouching and image editing.

Bob Garas's image, "Feather," is our First Runner-up winner. Garas has combined two contrasting elements in this image, both of which we associate with lightness and air. It is a beautiful composition combining unique shapes and forms, as well as similar colors. Mr. Garas will receive a year's subscription to PhotoTechniques magazine.

 "Powwow Regalia" by Anupam Pal is our Second Runner-up. The repeating lines and colors sweep our eye through the picture. It is mysterious enough to make us wonder what it is a part of and what the rest of this Native American costume might look like. The lighting is beautiful and allowed Mr. Pal to capture the texture and form of all of the elements. He will receive a year's subscription to The Art List.
