This contest probably yielded the most varied entries of any in
recent memory. We received images from all over the world. Sometimes
the only thing in common was that they had some sort of
transportation in them. Because of this variety it was the most fun
to judge in quite a while.
For Grand Prize we chose the image
"Stearman PT-17",
by Pete Nicholls. We were impressed by the
composition which conveyed the power and beauty of the plane. I
liked the angle which along with the blurred propeller gave the
impression of speed, especially as there was no background to give
us this sense. I also liked all of the lines and the colors.
"Bel Air" by Kathy Shogren takes the
First Runner-up slot. Shogren's image captures the feel and
style of this classic car. The red of the car makes the picture pop,
but also represents a time when car makers went all out with color.
The composition gives us the feel of a viewer looking through the
window, conjuring up memories of a time gone by when these classic
cars occupied a position in our culture even more important than
automobiles of the present.
Katya Evdokimova
of London,
England takes the Second Runner-up
position with her image,
"Pathway into Unknown".
It is a haunting image, placing the train and platform in the dense
fog. Could it be a ghost train? Where are the people? Where
has it come from?
And where is it going?
Congratulations to the Honorable Mentions in this
contest. Your images were also well appreciated.
