The Photo Contest: Purple

Since we began our bi-monthly contests, it was our hope that photographers would take our challenge of creating new photographs for the contest theme. While, over the years, we have received  many photographs that were clearly taken with the contest in mind, it was not until this one that a large number of good images were received that were created by photographers who took the contest theme as a challenge to create new images.

We chose Lana Arcemont's image, "Purple Thread," as the winner of this contest. We liked her effort to stick to the theme, to create an image for the theme and the technical execution of her idea. It is well composed, well lit and is very sharp.

We chose Jane Linders, "Purple Lily," as runner-up. This is clearly a digitally enhanced photo. It was chosen because of the strong compositional elements and artistic interpretation of the theme.
