The Photo Contest: Feet

Feet. We walk on them, we abuse them; they smell, they hurt. Some people can't bear to touch them, and to others they are sexual objects. When we are born they are perfect, soft and pink; as we age, they are the first to show the effects of time.

There was a wide range of interpretation on this theme and we received many more than I thought we might given the challenge of this subject.

We chose Andy Hoet's untitled image of people standing on a metal floor as the winner. The composition is wonderful and the patterns and confusing intersections of lines, shape and form are sharply and abruptly interrupted by...feet.

Ilkka Niskanen's "Footprints" is an example of the range of interpretation we received. In Illka's image the feet are not directly represented and they are not human but the tracks of a bird. The white feather accents the photo, both adding to the composition as well as the meaning.
