A new moon will offer the chance to
do star trail shots after the sun sets at six different formations. Weather
permitting, three nights of late night photography of the star trails doing
several increments of varying timed exposed lengths are planned. Learn how to do
long exposures combined with special lighting to capture images of the
formations that add a new dimension to most photographs from here.

The Outer Banks are a long, thin strip of barrier islands that are preserved to
a large extent by the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, it is a visual feast of
historic lighthouses spaced between long stretches of wild beaches and pristine
sand dunes. We show you our special haunts where you'll be able to celebrate
your passion for photography, hone your seeing and imaging skills, and learn
about the magic of light to make wonderful photographs.

While
many great images are taken during workshops in March and April, some of
my best photographs here were taken late November through December.
Winter plumage for the gulls creates a different appearance, but the
action is as good if not better. One key ingredient at this time of year
is that access to a group of skimmers and gulls is better since a key
gathering area is not closed off for nesting season
