Image Title: Little Grebe having Fish Supper

For some time I’ve been trying to photograph Little Grebes at a lake in the Wicklow Mountains about an hour from where I live but they’re incredibly shy there and I haven’t had much luck. So I was much surprised one evening in April to find this little fellow only 5 minutes down the road from me in Dun Laoghaire harbour happily swimming around and fishing in full view. It seems that what you’re looking for is sometimes right on your doorstep! (Nikon D7100, Tamron 150-600mm at 420mm, f6, 1/320)

Image Title: Misty Sunrise at Cleevaun Lough

This shot was taken after a night’s camping above the most remote of the upland lakes in the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland. I had camped there specifically to get a sunrise shot of the lake but woke surrounded by heavy cloud and thought my plan doomed. As I sat there taking a self-pitying selfie of myself in the gloom, I felt a slight warmth on my back and turned to see the sun starting to break through and moments later I had this shot! (Nikon D7100, Sigma 10-20mm at 10mm, f10, 1/50, ISO100, Lightroom HDR process 3 shots)

About Bob

I grew up in Ireland with a love for the outdoors, exploring the hills of Wicklow mostly, on bike, on foot, in rain and shine for the last 30 years. My love for nature has brought me to some incredible places in the world including the jungles of Central and South America. I appreciate the beauty of nature in all its forms and aim to capture that in my photos.
