About Us

A Short History of  The Apogee Photo Magazine Website

Apogee Photo Magazine, launched back in 1996, is one of the oldest photography websites online today. In the summer of 1995, Apogee Photo actually began as a text-only Internet news group.

The original founders of Apogee, all professional photographers, planned this forum to organize and help photographic educators interact with each other to improve their teaching resources.

The readership wanted more. Thus, in April of 1996, the first official APOGEE PHOTO MAGAZINE website went on-line with freshly expanded content.

By 1997, Apogee had attracted international interest with challenging photography contests. Soon, contributors from around the world were submitting articles and examples of their work.

In June of 2001, Image Works, an independent reviewer of web sites, rated the Apogee site and gave it 101 points out of 100.  Also that year, the Writers Digest included Apogee Photo Magazine in their list of “The 50 Best Places on the Web to Get Published.”

Now, all these years later, Apogee Photo is still going strong with our diverse team of photographers, writers and editors focusing on educating and inspiring thousands of photographers each year. We are proud to be one of the longest established photography sites on the web today.
